Tell party leaders: Expand social housing to help Canadians and the economy!

In the face of political and economic threats from the United States, most Canadians agree on two things: Canada’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, and Canada’s housing crisis will worsen with Trump’s tariffs in effect. Let the party leaders know that federal investment in social housing offers a dual solution. It will not only address the housing crisis by giving people access to affordable housing. It will also act as an economic stimulus by creating good jobs and boosting the GDP at a critical time. Send our letter to urge them to take action now this election season!

We are urging party leaders to endorse SHHR’s call for immediate action to achieve the following targets:

1. Create a minimum of 50,000 net new rent-geared-to-income social housing units each year for 10 years, starting immediately. These units must be targeted for those experiencing core housing need and homelessness and have rents permanently set at no more than 30% of household income or social assistance housing allowances.

2. Invest in the acquisition, construction, operation, and maintenance of new and existing public, non-profit, and cooperative-owned housing that meets the unique and varied requirements of people experiencing core housing need and homelessness.

Join us in demanding a real solution to the housing crisis.
